Workshop organized by Dr. Alexa Lenz (CAS Researcher in Residence/LMU).

Modern bureaucracies increasingly operate under conditions of chronic overload – caught between rising policy demands and limited administrative capacities. This workshop explores the dual dynamic of overload: how institutions cope with internal strain while simultaneously producing external burdens that shape access, inequality, and legitimacy. Contributions examine coping strategies at the organizational and street-level, citizen perceptions of administrative responsiveness, or broader political and discursive dimensions of overload.

Participants include Karoline Larsen Kolstad (Aarhus), Muiris MacCarthaigh (Queen’s University Belfast).

Alexa Lenz is CAS Researcher in Residence during the winter semester 2025/26.
